Entrapping Asylum Seekers

Refugee Rally Hong Kong

In this research project, Dr Francesco Vecchio and Associate Professor Alison Gerard are editing a collection of papers from international scholars that advance comprehensive, evidence-based understanding of the contemporaneous human condition of asylum seekers in countries of the Global North. In particular, the book explores the practices that lead to and upon which is predicated the perpetuation of the structural factors that precarize the livelihood of asylum seekers. By analyzing the socio-legal processes and implications underpinning asylum seeking, the book aspires to produce in-depth analyses against which the people tasked with making contentious and in many cases what amount to life and death, decisions should evaluate their work. The book, entitled ‘Entrapping Asylum Seekers’ will be published by Palgrave MacMillan in 2017.
