Michael has 31years experience of policing in the United Kingdom with the majority of that experience gained in the fields of investigation and command, retiring in 2008 as a Detective Chief Inspector (Senior Investigating Officer).
During his policing career, Michael gained extensive experience and developed significant expertise in leading the investigation of major, serious and organised crime particularly homicide, kidnap, extortion, contract shootings, people trafficking and terrorism.
In the field of command Michael was the Crime & Operations Commander for the city of Leicester, a qualified Firearms Commander, Siege Commander, Public Order Commander, Major Event Commander and CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear) Silver Commander/Advisor in respect of acts of terrorism. Michael was a Hostage Negotiator, Negotiator Coordinator and Assessor.
Prior to joining Charles Sturt University, Michael was a member of the academic staff of Loughborough College of Further Education, England where he was a lecturer in law, democratic process, command and psychology. Michael is a qualified Assessor of leadership and management competence which he conducted on behalf of Leicestershire Constabulary, Loughborough College of Further Education and Institute of Leadership and Management.
Michael joined Charles Sturt University in 2009 when he became a full time member of the academic staff at the School of Policing Studies, Goulburn campus. His specialist subject areas are law, investigation and investigative interviewing.
