Dr Paola Castillo

I completed my Honours degree in Psychology at Charles Sturt University. I decided to then pursue an academic career and enrolled in a PhD also at CSU. My doctoral dissertation was titled "Cultural and Cross-cultural factors in Judgments of credibility" which examined the influence of accent and second language use on cross-cultural judgments of credibility.

Paola is currently investigating behavioural and linguistic cues of deception in second language speakers. She is generally interested in:

  • Cross-cultural issues
  • Cross-cultural issues on credibility assessments and lie detection. In particular, the influence of accent and second language use on credibility assessments
  • Psychopathy and criminal behaviour.
