The Student Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) answers the most common questions students ask about Workplace Learning and is a must read before organising a placement. If you have any further questions please email the Workplace Learning Unit business-wpl@csu.edu.au.

Workplace Learning Administrative Process

There are 3 streams within the work placement subjects. Students are required to select the stream that is most appropriate for their situation. For further information regarding the streams, please refer to the Student FAQs.

  • Stream 1 - Placement with a NEW Host Organisation (where the business is NOT the student's usual employer)
  • Stream 2 - Placement with an Existing Employer (where the business is the student's current employer)
  • Stream 3 - Unable to undertake a work placement -Please note that students WILL NOT automatically be put into this stream, with the exception of international students studying in Australia under a student visa.

Workplace Learning Student Handbook

The Workplace Learning Student Handbook is a resource available to assist students before, during and after their work placement.  We recommend that students become familiar with the Handbook contents, and that a copy be retained for reference at all times.

Information for Students to present to prospective Host Organisations

When first approaching a prospective host organisation, students should provide a copy of the "Work Placement Information for Host Organisation" booklet. This booklet contains information regarding the subject as well as relevant contact information and samples of the Placement Agreement, Placement Evaluation Form, Attendance Record and Insurance Letter.

Forms

There are a number of forms to be completed throughout the Workplace Learning process:

  • FORM A - Stream/Placement Approval - This is the form students are required to complete in order to obtain CSU approval for their placement.
  • FORM B Stream 1 - Business Student Placement Agreement - This is an official document which must be completed and signed prior to a placement commencing. This formalises the process and ensures insurance coverage for the duration of the placement. All parties involved in a placement (student, host organisation and the University) must sign this; or
  • FORM B Stream 2 - Business Student Placement Agreement - This is an official document which must be completed and signed prior to a placement commencing. This formalises the process and ensures all parties are aware of their responsibilities during placement. All parties involved in a placement (student, host organisation and the University) must sign this.
  • FORM C - Attendance Record -  This is the form students are required to complete throughout their placement in order to track their hours. This form must be signed by the student and supervisor and emailed to business-wpl@csu.edu.au by the student as soon as possible upon conclusion of a placement.
  • FORM D - Student Review - This is the form that the University requires students to complete upon conclusion of their placement. The form allows students to give feedback on the content, delivery and administrative process of the placement subjects.
  • FORM E - Placement Evaluation - This is the form that the University requires host organisations to complete upon conclusion of a placement. An electronic copy will be sent to the host organisation by the Workplace Learning Officer.
  • FORM F - Authority to Disclose Information - This form should ONLY be completed by students wishing to apply for a placement that the Workplace Learning Unit has advertised or suggested, or if they desire assistance with locating a host organisation.
