Dr Mohsin Iftikhar

PhD in Information Technology, University of Sydney, 2008, M. Engg. Sc. in Telecommunications, UNSW, 2001, B.Sc in Electrical Engineering, UET, Pakistan, 1998

Mohsin Iftikhar has received his B.Sc. Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, Pakistan, M.Eng.Sc. in Telecommunications from UNSW Australia and PhD from University of Sydney, Australia in 1999, 2001 and 2008 respectively.

He had been the Consultant for National Information, Communication and Technology Australia (NICTA) and Soul Communications Australia during 2007-2009. Further, he used to train Ericsson Australia employees on different Cisco networking products. Currently he is working as a Senior Lecturer in School of Computing and Mathematics at Charles Sturt University, Australia. Additionally, he had been working as Honorary Visiting Fellow in School of Engineering and Mathematics at La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia.  Before this, he had been working as Associate Professor in Computer Science Department at Kind Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He had been also affiliated with NICTA ( as Visiting Research Fellow and as an Honorary Research Associate with School of IT, University of Sydney (

He has published several high-quality papers in international conferences and journals. He has been the first person to produce closed form expressions for G/M/1 queuing system for multiple classes of self-similar traffic under variety of scheduling mechanisms. His work has been acknowledged both my academia and industry and have been awarded different industrial and academic prizes/awards. The most prominent ones are (Siemens Prize for solving an industry problem 2006, Networks and Systems Prize in research project work, school of IT, 2007). His PhD thesis was nominated for Core Dissertation award in University of Sydney in 2008. He had been awarded an Endeavour Postgraduate Fellowship by Australian Government in 2008.

His research interests include IoT, Software Defined Networks (SDN), Machine to Machine (M2M) communication, Quality of Service (QoS), Traffic Modeling, Polling Models, 3G/4G Networks, Markov Chains, Stochastic Processes, WiMAX network and Network Calculus. He is the member of IEEE, ACM and IET, PMI and ISACA.
