Michel was a police officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted police for 33 years as a senior investigator in organized crime, drug section, custom and exercise section, major crime unit and patrol.

Michel's primary research interest is memory detection through EEG-based brainwave analysis of the Concealed Information Test, followed by lie detection, psychopathy, terrorism and forensic interviewing.
