Robyn was a police officer in the Queensland Police Service (QPS) for 15 years having left in 1995 at the substantive rank of Senior Sergeant. Whilst in the QPS, Robyn completed a Law degree, and in 1996 completed her master's degree in Law.
After leaving the QPS, Robyn worked as the Official Solicitor to the then Criminal Justice Commission (NSW ICAC equivalent) for almost 12 years. Robyn also worked as a prosecutions advisor to the Royal Solomon Islands Police in 2004.
In 2007, Robyn moved to Canberra to take up a position as senior prosecutor with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, conducting District and Supreme trials and higher court appeals. Robyn also spent some years working with the Attorney-General's Department primarily conducting a review of Commonwealth sentencing legislation.
Robyn began working at the NSW Police Academy in January 2019.
