PhD, BA-Psych (Hons) Dr Jacalyn Hall is an Early Career Researcher, graduating with a PhD in 2020. Jacalyn’s career post-graduation has been within an organisational context for both the private and public sectors. Working as a consultant to the franchise sector, she utilised survey data to improve relationships between Franchisors and their Franchisees. As an organisational psychologist for the Australian Defence Force (ADF), Jacalyn evaluated psychometrics used to select ADF personnel across all three-armed forces and ranks. Now, Jacalyn has returned to academia to tap into her research interests of other person perception and teaching at a higher education level. Jacalyn’s main areas of teaching interest are in teaching the introductory psychology subjects, including Foundations of Psychology (1st year) and Research Methods and Statistics (2nd year). As well as more weighty subjects such as Developmental and Social Psychology (2nd year), and Cognition and Learning (3rd year). Jacalyn also supervises a number of honours and masters students. Jacalyn’s PhD dissertation focused on the underlying mechanisms used to discern biological sex, whether evolutionary constructs or learning. Current work will extend this research by investigating how learnt perceptions of females and males (e.g., ideal figures) influence our judgements of biological sex. More broadly, Jacalyn is interested in other-person perception and factors that influence categorical judgements. For example, how self-defence influences threat perception, or the empathy and abuse of teachers impact their approach to students.Professors and Lecturers
