Tim Hannan is a clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist who has worked in public health, private practice and tertiary education over a thirty year period. He has been employed at Charles Sturt since 2012, where he has served as Head of the School of Psychology (2015-2018) and Director of the Professional Psychology programs (2012-2014, 2018-2023). Tim’s educational background includes postgraduate qualifications in clinical psychology (Sydney), clinical neuropsychology (Macquarie), cognitive science (UNSW), linguistics (UNE) and sport psychology (UWS), as well as degrees in languages (ANU), international relations (ANU) and Asian studies (ANU). Tim has held registration as a psychologist since 1992, and is endorsed in six areas of psychological practice. The majority of his career has been in the field of child and adolescent psychology, and he has previously been employed at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and at Sydney Children’s Hospital. His main clinical interests concern the assessment and treatment of childhood disorders, including anxiety disorders, sleep problems, and developmental learning disorders. In 2003, he received $1.1 million of funding to direct the Australian standardisations of three major tests of children's cognitive abilities, the WISC-IV, WIAT-II and CELF-4. Tim is a well-regarded presenter in several fields of child and adolescent psychology, having presented over 350 keynotes, workshops and seminars to psychology associations, health and education departments, and various other organisations around Australia and internationally. For many years, Tim maintained a forensic psychology consultancy in NSW and WA, focussing on criminal responsibility in adolescence and medico-legal aspects of acquired brain injury. He was also contracted as a sport psychology network provider for the NSW Institute of Sport, and founded the Australian Sport Psychology Network (ASPN). Tim was the recipient of the Award of Distinction of the APS College of Sport Psychologists in 2017 in recognition of his contribution to the field. A member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) since 1992, Tim has held numerous offices within the Society, including terms as State Chair of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists, National Chair of the APS College of Educational & Developmental Psychologists, and National Chair of the APS College of Sport Psychologists. He also served a term as National Chair of the APS College of Clinical Neuropsychologists, and chaired the College's 5th Annual Conference in 1999 and 12th Annual Conference in 2006. He received the Award of Distinction of the APS College of Clinical Neuropsychologists in 2011. Tim was elected to Fellowship of the APS in 2008, and to the APS Board of Directors in 2010. He served as President of the APS from 2012 to 2014, and chaired the 2nd APS Congress in 2018. In 2022, Tim was elected to the Board of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) and served as President of the IAAP Division of Clinical and Community Psychology from 2022 to 2025. Tim also serves as a Senior Member on the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal for matters concerning psychologists which arise from the Health Care Complaints Commission, and is a member of the NSW Psychology Council’s Impaired Registrants Panel.
