Reza is a senior lecturer in geotechnical engineering. He has a combined professional and academic experience in geotechnical/dam engineering. He has been an academic at Charles Sturt since 2015 and course director of engineering since 2019. Before his role at Charles Sturt, he led the department of soil and rock mechanics in an international consulting engineering company and served as a member of the technical committee. He has been a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in Civil, Leadership, and Management since November 2016.
Reza holds a Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Geotechnical Engineering, and Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering all from Sharif University of Technology, Iran. His research interests and expertise is in the areas of geotechnical engineering and workplace learning including numerical and experimental modelling of soil and water interaction, remediation of soil contaminants, analysis and monitoring of dams, seismic analysis of geo-structures, engineering education, and workplace learning.
Reza has conducted research in a broad range of geotechnical engineering applications including laboratory and numerical modelling. This includes remediation of contaminated soils, modelling the soil collapse due to saturation, analysis and rehabilitation of geo-structures against earthquakes and vibrations, modelling and rehabilitation of dams and tunnels, and modelling the rock masses and rock joints behaviours.
He is a member of the Institute for Land, Water, and Society and his research profile is presented in this website.
In non-traditional teaching and learning in the school of engineering, Reza has been responsible for the following teaching activities:
Reza spent more than 10 years in industry from junior to senior geotechnical engineer before he commenced his role at CSU. He also led the department of soil and rock mechanics in an international consulting engineering company for 4 years. His professional experience included:
