Rod is a lecturer with Charles Sturt University at the School of Policing Studies and currently teaches on the Associated Degree of Policing Practice. He formerly held the rank of Senior Constable with the NSW Police Force and had worked in general duties, commuter crime, operations support group, criminal investigation (plain clothes constable), crime prevention and as a school liaison.
Rod has graduated from Charles Sturt University with a bachelor of policing, graduate certificate criminology, master of arts public theology, and from SCD with a master of philosophy.
Aside from his interest in teaching policing and criminal justice studies, Rod is in the process of undertaking research at the doctoral level in the field of creative arts. He is engaged in ethnographical research that examines current practice-based methods in the disciplines of self-defence.
