Dr Michael Eburn is an experienced teacher and researcher. He has had appointments at the University of New England (UNE; 1994-2010) and the ANU (2010-2019).  He now joins CSU to continue his interest in teaching the next generation of lawyers.

Dr Eburn’s research has focused on law and health care and then the law that applies to the emergency services and emergency management. He is regarded as the pre-eminent scholar in this field. He has an extensive list of national and international publications in the field and his research has been supported by the Bushfire and then Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centres and Natural Hazards Research Australia.

Michael has taught across the law curriculum teaching units in health law, criminal law, civil procedure and evidence, torts, and practical legal training. He is one of the original authors of Hayes and Eburn’s Criminal Law and Procedure in NSW.

Dr Eburn’s teaching commitments are yet to be finalised.

Dr Eburn continues to research in the area of emergency law. He writes regular articles for professional journals such as Response (the official journal of the Australasian College of Paramedicine) and The Volunteer (the official journal of the NSW State Emergency Services Volunteers Association).

He operates a popular blog – Australian Emergency Law - https://australianemergencylaw.com/ where he reports on legal developments as well as answering questions from practitioners about how the law applies to their work. This blog has been regularly rated among Australia’s top law blogs.
