Profile

Professor Anna Shillabeer is a PhD qualified computer scientist with 20 years experience as a higher education academic. Her research focus is in digital health, sustainable health solutions, workforce capacity building, higher education renovation and c ross-cultural education.

Before joining Charles Sturt, Anna was a Dean of School for over 10 years and was an award nominated lecturer in information security, software engineering and data management. Anna brings experience in Australian universities in Australia and overseas and, in foreign university settings in Australia. She brings a wealth of experience in designing engaging online delivery having overseen the transition to fully online teaching at the start of the Covid pandemic without impacting student evaluations or experience.

Anna is committed to delivering and informing quality education and has sat on the TEQSA panel of academic experts since 2011 and has significant experience in leading and conducting accreditation for higher education providers and courses and, provides expert reviews of accreditation packages by request. Anna is currently an elected executive with the Australian Computer Society Tasmanian Branch and, the Australian Deans of ICT. Her non-academic career pathway includes time as an education and health consultant with one of the Big 4 consulting companies and as a self employed IT consultant where she worked as an international higher education quality assurance expert who advised the World Bank and Asian Development bank in Viet Nam for 2 years.

Anna brings a deep understanding of cross-disciplinary teaching and research and, thinking outside of the traditional education square. She is passionate about creating unique and engaging student experiences, integrating industry into education, and vice versa, and building workplaces that genuinely live a culture of inclusivity, safety and respect. Anna believes education is for all and espouses an integrated approach to education design and delivery highlighting the needs of staff, students, industry and the broader community in which we all live and work.  She believes that learning and sharing of knowledge and wisdom is an opportunity to build social connections and collective capability and resilience.
