Three Rivers Department of Rural Health

Three Rivers Department of Rural Health provides valuable support for eligible students undertaking placement in rural areas. This includes subsidised accommodation or financial assistance when placed in Three Rivers locations. Students also benefit from a range of resources, such as online learning modules, access to the Charles Sturt Student Rural Health Club, and information on rural career opportunities and pathways for further health study. Additionally, students can access the UDRH map, which provides an overview of all University Departments of Rural Health across Australia, including contact details to help them confirm their placement locations.

Health placement requirements

The Student Placement Agreement (SPA) within any public or private health facility mandates that the Education Provider, (i.e. the university), must approach health facilities on your behalf. Note that not all Local Health Districts (LHDs) are included in the SPA. You must contact your work-integrated learning (WIL) officer to check if the university has an active agreement for psychology in the LHD before seeking placement within any health facility in any state.

To be eligible for a placement in any health facility (public or private), you must first complete the NSW Health compliance requirements, regardless of the state where you wish to complete your placement. This process can take some time, so it's best to start as soon as you enrol in your WIL subject. Note that NSW Health staff must also complete the student compliance steps.

You must not approach or arrange your own placement in any public or private health facility. Once you have been notified you're health compliant, the WIL team, along with your Placement Coordinator (Academic), will assist you in sourcing a placement in an accessible LHD. All health placements must be requested by your WIL officer via ClinConnect or an equivilent state process.

Steps

  1. Enrol in your WIL subject through your student portal.
  2. Review the student compliance requirements on the HETI website.
  3. Contact your WIL officer to confirm whether there is an active SPA for the LHD where you intend to complete your placement.
  4. Familarise yourself with the NSW Health policy directive on Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases.
  5. Collate your portfolio of evidence using the following email subject line:
